12 Years A Slave

This biographical-period drama film is an adaptation of a memoir that embodies the saddening true story of slavery- specific to one man but true to many. Set in pre-Civil War America the film was nominated for 9 Oscar awards and won 3. It is rated as the best slave-themed film and has most likely set the standard too high for the production of a competitor.
