With all of the moving pieces that go into creating a feature-length movie, it is always a possibility that the end result will not be as great as viewers hope it will be. There are movies out there that range all the way from horrible to unbelievably incredible and everything in between. The best movies are the ones that had a hard-working team that came together to make their visions become a reality. These are those movies.

Movies That Are Practically Perfect
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
Film director Michel Gondry came together with screenwriter Charlie Kaufman in 2004 and created the masterpiece that we know to be Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The main characters in the film are Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet, which should say everything you need to know about how great the film really is. Joel Barish and Clementine, Carrey and Winslet’s characters, are involved in a romantic relationship that starts to go South, so they each get a procedure to erase each other from their minds. As expected, this isn’t as simple as they thought.

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
The Grand Budapest Hotel
This is not surprising news, but The Grand Budapest Hotel director Wes Anderson’s highest-grossing film as well as the first to get him an Academy Award nomination. It combines many different aspects of his different films and brings them together into one incredible movie. The film is all about a hotel lobby boy, played by Tony Revolori, who starts a job at the Grand Budapest Hotel. Throughout the duration of the film, you are taken on an unpredictable roller coaster through Wes Anderson’s brain.

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Silence
Martin Scorsese tried to tackle one of the most difficult topics filmmakers face, and he succeeded. The meaning of life and morality is a touchy subject to make a film about, but he did it correctly. The film is about two Jesuit priests who sneak into Japan to find that their mentor has renounced his faith. The camerawork is impeccable and the plot of the movie is truly like no other.

Silence
Jaws
Jaws was the kind of movie that could have been a hit for a few months then taken a nosedive once people saw it once, but Steven Spielberg and his team made sure that wouldn’t be the case with it. Even over 40 years after the movie was made, people still think twice before going deep into the ocean. Spielberg and his team brought this movie to an iconic level that will never be topped by any similar film.

Jaws
Unforgiven
This film is where Clint Eastwood got his start with Western movies. This movie, which Eastwood directed and starred in, recalls the story of a former outlaw who gave up his old life to raise his children but has to go back for some extra money. This film does the perfect job of showing what true ugly violence looks like instead of glorifying it as is done in most Western films.

Unforgiven
There Will Be Blood
Paul Thomas Anderson shines a light on people’s greed for money and oil in this late 19th-century film. Stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano fight with one another for who will have control over oil. The movie takes a poke at American capitalism and the greed-driven things people do unknowingly.

There Will Be Blood
John Wick
John Wick is a perfectly-executed film that made star Keanu Reeves train for 8 hours a day, five days a week, for four months in order to perform to his best ability. There is a backstory to this movie that can’t be found anywhere else; it’s more than just about a man who goes on a killing spree after his dog was murdered. The dog was the last thing that connected him to his deceased wife. This film has emotions behind it that can only be described by watching the film for yourself.

John Wick
You Were Never Really Here
This film tracks the life of a hitman- played by Joaquin Phoenix- who was hired by a senator to save his daughter from big dangers. This may seem like a very familiar plot, but the execution and character motivation is what makes it better than anything else. Phoenix does an incredible job of balancing multiple types of personalities in the best way possible.

You Were Never Really Here
The Witch
This movie that is set in the 1630s is about a father and his family who have all been banished from a Puritan Plymouth community and try to go out on their own to start a farm in a forest. When a member of their family disappeared out of nowhere, the family has many problems ahead while trying to find him. Robert Eggers, director, spent four years doing research in order to make the movie as real as it could be.

The Witch
Manchester By The Sea
This is not the sort of film you watch if you’re looking for a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. The film is about Lee Chandler- played by Casey Affleck- who is forced into returning back to his hometown after his brother died and he finds out he now has custody over his teenaged nephew. This film will make you feel emotions you never thought you could feel from something that is not real life, but it is as real as it can get inside of a screen.

Manchester By The Sea
Mad Max: Fury Road
Mad Max: Fury Road is all about a near-feral human living in a post-apocalyptic world who ends up on a mission to save women from evil grips. The plot is quite interesting on its own, but the action and special effects are what really makes it stand out. Most of the stunts are real, as are the high-speed vehicles whipping around.

Mad Max: Fury Road
Mulholland Drive
Mulholland Drive is not the first, nor is it the only, film to take a shot at perfecting the idea of surrealism, but David Lynch perfectly translates the idea of surrealism into this film. He blurs the lines between what is a dream and what is reality, which creates a disturbing yet incredible film. The film is so great that even the BBC named it the greatest film of the 21st century.

Mulholland Drive
Her
Spike Jonze wrote, directed, and produced this science-fiction romance that ended up being a top hit. It is set in the future, but still the relatable future. The film follows Theodore Twombly, played by Joaquin Phoenix, through his recent divorce. He tries to mend his broken heart by buying an operating system, but he ends up falling in love with it. There is so much to play with through this movie- the emotions, the camerawork, the colors, everything- and the cast and crew simply hit it out of the park.

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford is considered to be one of the most underrated films ever created. Unlike the typical Western film with nothing but a whole lot of gunfights, this film takes its time in introducing characters and building up the plot. Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck perfected their characters’ personalities and made the film what it really was. The combination of acting with the amazing camerawork making the screen look like a painting is what made this movie incredible.

The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford
The Lord Of The Rings Return of the King
While every movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy was out of this world, it was the final one that tied everything together and brought every movie to a full closure. The cinematography and realistic battles are what make it the second-highest-grossing film of all time, and the reason it was able to win 11 Oscars. An achievement like this is not common.

The Lord Of The Rings Return Of The King
The Thing
While being located in an isolated area in Antarctica a group of researchers stumbles across “The Thing”, which is a massive life-sized parasite that can adapt to the shape or any organism, including humans. This makes the team of researchers feel uneasy being in the presence of one another, as they have no idea if one of them may be the parasite. At first, viewers weren’t sure how they felt about this film, but over time everyone grew to love it and appreciate its depth and complexity.

The Thing
Pulp Fiction
This film was directed by Quentin Tarantino and stars Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, and John Travolta; it really doesn’t get much better than this. Though the cast and acting skills are incredible, what really makes this film stand out is the fact that there are so many mini plotlines of the movie that have nothing to do with one another, yet somehow they make their way together by the end. You have no idea what the next step in the movie will be, and it does such a good job of keeping you intrigued. Not to mention the soundtrack that everyone knows and loves.

Pulp Fiction
2001: A Space Odyssey
This film that was a playoff of Arthur C. Clarke’s “The Sentinel” follows a spaceship to Jupiter after human evolution was found to be disrupted. What makes this film stand out amongst the rest is the fact that it touches on things that most movies stay away from, like evolution and existentialism. The filmmakers really made it as real as it can get by using sounds and dialogues sparingly to make viewers think they were in space. This movie has been said to be one of the most influential movies ever made.

2001: A Space Odyssey
The Big Lebowski
The Big Lebowski recalls the story of someone called “The Dude”, who is played by Jeff Bridges. He finds himself struggling in every which direction to buy a new rug. There is so much going on in every minute of this movie, which leaves viewers just as confused as “The Dude” is. The out-there characters of this movie are what won over viewers, on top if its funny and light-hearted script that will leave its fans reciting lines from the movie in their everyday lives.

The Big Lebowski
Pan’s Labyrinth
This dark film takes place five years after the Spanish Civil War and does an incredible job of mixing history with a mythical world idea. The film is essentially about a young girl named Ofelia who finds magical creatures that lead her somewhere to decide her fate. Parts of this movie are violent and emotional, but the acting and camerawork in this film are what make it a movie to be praised by everyone who has watched it.

Pan’s Labyrinth
Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
There will always be a debate about what the best Marvel movie will be, but we think that Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 deserves a fighting chance to be considered number one. This film touches on a lot of the aspects of the different characters and how their past brought them to where they are now.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
Hot Fuzz
There are a ton of comedies out in the universe, but many will tell you that Hot Fuzz is your best option. The 2007 British movie is about two police officers who are adamant about solving a crime of a mysterious chain of deaths in the area. While this doesn’t sound like a hilarious plot, trust us, it is. The jokes and plot foreshadowing are like nothing you’ll see in any other movie, and the way they throw in a tiny bit of horror, mystery, and action will blow your mind.

Hot Fuzz
Spider-Man 2
Even Roger Ebert, a film critic who is known for giving harsh reviews to every movie, called this 2004 film “the best superhero movie since the modern genre was launched with Superman“, and that says a lot about how amazing this movie really is. One of the best parts of this version of the movie is that they are able to keep a light-hearted tone throughout the movie while not discrediting what’s at stake in the film. Viewers find themselves growing attached not only to cheering for the success of Spider-Man, but also the success of his personal life.

Spider-Man 2
Evil Dead II
Many people consider this movie to be flawless, and it’s not for no reason. The goal set forth for this film was to make its viewers scream and to make its viewers laugh, and they accomplished both of those tasks. This sequel to the 1981 classic film shows Bruce Campbell being in a very serious light, as he’s covered in guts.

Evil Dead II
Titanic
As the director, writer, co-producer, and co-editor of the iconic film, James Cameron had a say in just about everything that happened during the creation of the Titanic. This movie, which is loved by nearly everyone who has ever seen it, was nominated for a whopping 14 Academy Awards and won 11 Oscars! Even though it likely will not hold all of its records forever, it will always be the first movie to make over $1 billion.

Titanic
West Side Story
Even if you aren’t a big fan of classic films, you need to make sure to see this one. The director of the film was inspired to turn the story into a movie, despite the fact that he had no experience working on a musical. Because he knew he needed help, he brought on Jerome Robbins, a musical and dance director, to help with the behind the scenes work of prepping the characters for their roles. The 1961 film was so perfectly made that viewers felt like they were taken back to 1957 in Manhattan.

West Side Story
The English Patient
This is one of those films that will reach the deepest darkest parts of your heart and pull on its strings. The English Patient is the kind of movie that can make you feel as though you can relate to the horrors of World War II, even if you weren’t even born yet. It was given 12 nominations for Academy Awards and won nine of them, and won two out of its seven Golden Globe nominations.

The English Patient
Slumdog Millionaire
Slumdog Millionaire was the kind of film that American viewers didn’t realize they needed in their lives to enrich their cultural and international knowledge and awareness for issues. The film is all about the lives of a set of brothers who are growing up in the slums of Mumbai, India. Simon Beaufoy, the screenwriter of the film, tried to dive deep into the culture so he could ensure accuracy of what he was portraying on-screen. The film won an Academy Award for Best Picture, amongst others, and made $377 million!

Slumdog Millionaire
Schindler’s List
Schindler’s List is one of the films that is based on a novel, which is where many great movies come from, as it has an amazing script to work off of already. Steven Spielberg’s directing skills mixed with Steven Zaillian’s writing skills made this movie unforgettable in every way. The movie is about Oskar Schindler and his world-altering journey to save thousands of Polish-Jewish refugees from their fate of getting taken during the Holocaust by hiring them to work at his factory. The camerawork and music by Itzhak Perlman is what makes this film nearly perfect and definitely unbeatable.

Schindler’s List

This film didn’t just win over the hearts of those in America, but all around the world people were running head-first to get a ticket.

Forrest Gump
The Godfather Part II
Usually, sequels to movies are not nearly as good as the first one, but this was a rare occasion when the sequel of the film was done quite well. The cast included amazing actors like Al Pacino and Robert De Niro and was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, so already you know it will be good. The first installment of The Godfather was such a big hit that Paramount Pictures didn’t even think twice about creating a sequel. At first, Coppola was unsure about the fate of this sequel film, but after rewriting parts of the script he knew it would be incredible.

The Godfather Part II
Get Out
This is one of the newer films on the list, but it is there with good reason. It is considered to be one of the best films of the current generation, as it plays on some horrible realities that African-Americans have faced and put people in the shoes of those who have had to live through these realities. Chris, played by actor Daniel Kaluuya, is going to visit his girlfriend’s family, but immediately after his arrival, everything seems a bit fishy to him. It started with thinking the family may be a bit racist but means well, and quickly takes a sharp turn to unveil anyone’s most horrible nightmare coming to life. This film shows realities in today’s society that many people don’t think of if they don’t have to, but now they do.

Get Out
Creed
Until sitting down to watch this film, many fans thought that the Rocky movies did not need a new addition to the group. This 2015 adaptation went on to be thought of as the best film in the bunch since its 1976 original movie. When this movie was made, Michael B. Jordan was still an upcoming actor. His character, Adonis Creed, wanted to turn to Rocky Balboa in order to prove himself. This wasn’t simply a sequel to an already-existing movie, but instead, it gave us a new character with new developments and a new storyline.

Creed
Shaun Of The Dead
Before Hot Fuzz came into existence, Shaun Of The Dead was the horror-comedy film that was considered to be a force to be reckoned with. Shawn, a slacker who doesn’t do much with his life, is thrown head-first into adulthood when a zombie apocalypse takes over his hometown. Instead of making this zombie movie solely about blood and guts, there is also a great amount of comedy in this movie.

Shaun Of The Dead

Fight Club
The Incredibles
This movie is much different from every other film on the list, but Disney truly stepped up their game when they released The Incredibles in 2004. This movie, which features a “normal” family trying to keep their insane superpowers a secret, was not the typical film about princesses or animals that Disney usually releases. Not only is the animation level impressive, but the plot of the movie is actually one that can keep both children and adults entertained throughout the duration.

Us
An American horror film starring Oscar-winning Lupita Nyongo will have you shivering and shaking in your boots. Perfect ina different sense maybe but the film is rather scary. The film discusses a much darker side of the human condition and ultimately has been received in much ambiguity but is definitely causing a stir.

Us

Cuteness overload in the most perfect way possible. We can stop there…but, of course, we won’t. This 1995 comedy-drama tells the story of an adopted piglet who aspires to do the work of a sheepdog, the seven years it took to produce are well worth it. It was one of few at the time with successful visual effects and is still a family favorite today.

The Laundromat
We love a good Meryl Streep film, who doesn’t? However, this is a truly exposing and unexpected film to her usual performances. Not only exposing a world-known insurance and tax-evasion strategy but actually delving into it in an unorthodox film perspective too. The film is available on Netflix too.

Perfect performance by Denzel and a perfect cop movie if anyone is looking for one.
